Which Gas Logs are Right for Me?
Vented
Vented logs are typically more realistic in appearance because the flames actually wrap around the logs, creating a larger, more realistic fire. However, with vented logs, we will need to clamp your damper (the metal arm that opens and closes the chimney) in the open position. This allows the smoke and exhaust to escape properly through the chimney. One thing to keep in mind with vented logs is that they require a constant pilot light to be burning. This helps maintain an upward draft, preventing cold air from being pulled down through the chimney and into your home.
Vent-Free
Vent-free logs are a bit simpler and don’t require the damper to remain open. You can control how much heat stays in the room by adjusting the damper. When the damper is closed, all the heat stays in the space, making vent-free logs more efficient in terms of heat output. The flames in vent-free systems are designed to burn very cleanly, so you don’t have to worry about harmful gasses escaping, but because the logs are arranged around the flames rather than directly in them, the look can be slightly less realistic compared to vented systems.
Or an insert?
A fireplace insert is the best solution if you're looking to upgrade an existing wood-burning fireplace into an efficient and clean heating source. Inserts are sealed systems that deliver more heat, improve safety, and reduce energy waste while still giving you the cozy ambiance of a real fire. FireplaceX models come standard with the features you actually want; remote control operation, built-in fan kits for better heat circulation, and accent lighting for that perfect finishing touch.
